Historic Buncombe County ford across the North Fork of Big Ivy Creek. McKinney's Ford was a river crossing on the old wagon road from Asheville to Burnsville and was used from the 1850's up to the 1920's. It's about one half a mile Southwest from the Carter-Swain House, (c. 1849) which in the later part of the 19th century, served as a store, post office and inn on the old wagon road.

Life on the Ivy
The ripest time on the Ivy, is when the spring chorus frogs and peepers hatch out and ooze back into the world. The frog bloom, even more than the old homestead daffodils, defines the Ivy's rebith.
This is looking along the old wagon road from near where I believe the old McKinney Homestead and main house stood. The daffodils are from the old homestead and are a variety called Butter and Eggs, they were first hybridized in the 1770's and are quite different from the modern day versions of the flower.
